joyful papercutting workshops and templates - est. 2010

Christmas Workshop Sunday 17th November 12-3.30pm

£45.00

My Christmas workshops were so popular last year that they sold out within four hours of going on sale. Spaces are limited so please book early to avoid missing out! This year I are revisiting the beautiful layered paper lanterns which you loved last year – they feature a festive scene of fir trees, cute little houses and even a car with a Christmas tree on the roof.  I have also designed a NEW design for 2024 for those that did it last year and want something different. The workshops last 3 and a half  hours (slightly longer than last year) and in that time you’ll be able to cut and assemble your own paper lantern. You’ll head home with your lantern and a battery operated tealight – when the sun goes down and the candle is switched on the lantern comes to life with incredible shadows. A real showpiece of a Christmas decoration that will last for years to come. Places are limited to book fast to secure your space

What to expect at your Christmas workshop?

Christmas workshops are held in the lovely bright and airy education space at Walford Mill Crafts in the heart of idyllic Wimborne in Dorset. Your workshop begins with a warm welcome and mince pie at 12.30pm. I’ll introduce the basics of papercutting – the tools you’ll be using and the templates you’ll be cutting. You’ll then work through a simple practice sheet to get your scalpel skills up to speed before embarking on your lantern templates.

We spend the rest of the workshop happily chatting while cutting our papercuts and we really get to know each other during the course of the workshop. They are always a lot of fun, and I pride myself on making everyone feel welcome, safe and relaxed. You won’t want to leave!

Can a beginner come to a Christmas Workshop?

Absolutely! The template is adaptable to make it slightly easier for beginner papercutters or wonderfully intricate for those wanting more detail.

Can I come on my own?

If you come along to my Christmas workshop on your own I’ll make sure you won’t feel alone. I pride myself on making everyone feel welcome. I’ll be sure to keep the conversation flowing and your mug full of refreshment. We arrive as strangers and leave as friends. Let me know if you are anxious and I’ll make sure to seat you next to me so you’re not alone.

Can I buy the tools from you?

Yes! If you have fallen for the relaxing charms of papercutting, you’ll find everything you need in my studio within Walford Mill to keep your new obsession going. Find me by the first entrance on the ground floor. You’ll find scalpel sets, Fiskars swivel scalpels, A4 cutting mats as well as a selection of templates and my ‘Workshop-in-a-box’ kits.

What else is there to see and do at Walford Mill?

Walford Mill is the most amazing place to hold a Christmas workshop – with resident makers selling from their open studios and a perpetually changing pop up and exhibition space full of artists and makers there’s always something to see and do. Be sure to arrive in good time to enjoy the rest of Walford Mill. There’s also a cafe on site in the courtyard – Little Pickle at the Mill so you could even grab lunch before the workshop!
